Chimney Sweep and Repair Service
Why Get Your Chimney Cleaned?
Chimneys need sweeping and cleaning to get rid of the creosote deposits, debris, and animal nests. Dirt, debris, and other things in your chimney can cause flue blockage and fires. It is also a nice holiday present to get your chimney swept before the holidays so you can hang decorations and take beautiful pictures.
Different Sweep for Different Chimney Types
Chimneys need a different type of cleaning based on their type. A traditional masonry/ brick/ stone fireplace and chimney get a lot more creosote buildup than a prefabricated fireplace with metal flue. Gas fireplaces do not have creosote buildup since they do not use firewood. The only reason to clean gas fireplaces is for animal nests, water damage, or debris. All chimneys need an inspection to know what needs to be swept and cleaned.
What is Creosote?
Creosote is very flammable and causes many house fires every year. It is a black/ brown residue that collects inside the chimney flue when burning firewood. Creosote buildup can even cause cracks in "fireproof" brick, clay, or stone flue liners and the fire can reach other parts of your house through the cracks.
How Often Should You Clean Your Chimney?
It is actually best to sweep and clean your chimney every year. Even if you do not use your chimney a lot, dirt, grime, debris, animals, and nests can get stuck in your chimney. Do you need a new chimney cap? That can be arranged! Give us a call today.
